1 WEEK ITINERARY

Day 1: Arrival
Late arrival at the international airport. You will be greeted at the airport with a welcoming smile. Enjoy a pleasant air-conditioned ride to 1848 Princess Tui Inn. The English speaking driver will be pleased to answer all your questions. Take a stroll past Palolo Deep Marine Reserve, past Apia Marina and along the Harbour seawall to the cafes and restaurants of Apia.

DAY 2: Samoan Markets and  Palolo Deep Marine Reserve
Start your day with a delicious breakfast. Visit the local main produce market, fish market, and pick up a lava - lava at the flea market.  Walk through town stop at the colonial Government Building dating back from German times - now the Courthouse.  Visit the Samoa Cultural exhibits at the Samoa Museum upstairs.  Then relax, swim and snorkel at Palolo Deep Marine Reserve or sunbathe in our tropical palm fringed garden.  Watch the sunset from Princess Tui's steps enjoying Samoa's cool Vailima beer.

Day3: Around the island tour
Pick up at 1848 Princess Tui Inn just after 8am daily. Take a leisurely drive along Upolu Island’s winding north east coast hugging the rugged coastline with sea and mountain views. Listen to your guide's introduction of life in Samoa. Swim at Piula Cave - a natural cave pool - feed the fish and eels. Visit Falefa Falls, Fagaloa Bay Lookout and Le Mafa Pass Lookout with magnificent views. Stroll along Lalomanu Beach, view islands in Marine Protected Area and enjoy a swim.  Visit Sopoaga Waterfall, botanical gardens and traditional cookhouse.   You are invited for a traditional lunch at a small village where fire making, coconut husking and coconut cream demonstrations are performed. Drink lemon tea and sample local root crops.  Swim at Togitogiga Waterfall and stroll through the gardens. Walk along Maninoa Beach to Coconuts Beach Club.  Drive along Lefaga Bay, through villages to a beautiful forested lookout, then on to Manono Island Wharf. Feed the green turtles and fish before returning back to Apia.

Day 4: Papaseea Sliding Rocks
An easy fifteen minute taxi ride takes you to Papaseea Sliding Rocks.  Experience a little Samoan action or just cool off in the mountain stream: natural rock slides aside a waterfall! Three slides, the main 8 meter slide with swimming pool below, a 4 meter "bathtub" slide and then an exciting 12 meter slide / drop, can be enjoyed. It’s exciting and its fun. Four cool small pools under the falls provide a little swimming and a relaxing whirlpool shoulder massage!  In the evening you will enjoy a traditional Samoan fiafia show (only Wednesday – Saturday).

Day 5: Manono Island
Experience the fa’a Samoa on Manono Island . Take a fun, low cost Samoan bus ride to Manono wharf.  Then a half hour fishing boat ride will bring you to this unspoiled island. No cars or dogs here.  A leisurely 2 hour walk takes you through traditional Samoan villages around the little island.  Attractions are a prehistoric Star Mound temple and the Grave of 99 wives. Learn how to make traditional Samoan baskets and handicraft.

Day 6: Samoan Sunday
Experience a Samoan Sunday like a Samoan. First is Church, attended in the morning (as well as in the afternoon). Families, women dressed in white, assemble in the well preserved churches of Samoa . Enjoy the beautiful choirs, well trained and determined voices.  Early morning smoke rises over Apia like a fog.  Samoan Umus (steam rock ovens) are being prepared - sometimes starting at 3.00 am . Heated stones at the base, pieces of fish or meat and taro or breadfruit on the top piled up, everything covered with moistened leaves. After church, right in time, everything is well cooked and the whole family joins in enjoying an abundant meal - called To’onai.  After a little rest enjoy some of the best snorkeling in Samoa at Palolo Deep Marine Reserve just in front of Princess Tui.

Day 7: Robert Louis Stevenson Home
Visit the home of Robert Louis Stevenson - the only home he ever owned.  RLS  traveled all over the South Pacific (dining with the King of Hawaii and sailing to Tahiti) before choosing to make Samoa his home.  Take a 2-3 hour hike to Robert Louis Stevenson's tomb at the top of Mount Vaea . Enjoy the beautiful view over Apia town and down to the sea. Return to Princess Tui at lunch time for fish and chips or seafood platter at Seafood Gourmet. Go to the Market buy some gifts to take home. You will be picked up from the airport shuttle bus at 1848 Princess Tui Inn to be on time for your airport departure.

Day 6: Bushwalk to Lake Lanoto'o
Enjoy a guided 3 hours return walk through rainforest to the volcanic freshwater lake. Swim the opaque green water. Have picnic in this beautiful scenery! Gumboots and raincoats are provided. Bring bathing suits, towel, camera, old clothes, water & a picnic along. Spent a relaxing afternoon at Palolo Deep Marine Reserve; one of the best snorkeling spots of Samoa .

Day 7: Sunday Umu
Experience a Samoan Sunday! Enjoy a traditional Umu at Taumai Beach. Experience Samoan hospitality and relax at the remote lagoon of Sa’anapu-Bay on a quiet Sunday morning between sandy beaches and the tranquility of the mangrove forest. You will enjoy a traditional Sunday To’onai Umu feast, guided tour in an outrigger boat and hiking tour in the mangrove forest. Learn how to prepare a traditional Samoan Umu dinner with lots of Taro, Palusami, Fish and other delicious specialties of Samoa . (Vegetarians are welcome). To top it off snorkel and swim inside the lagoon!

Day 8: Lalomanu
Sun, fun and relax at Lalomanu! Lalomanu offers good swimming and snorkeling. Kayaking diving and surfing can be arranged for an extra fee.

Day 9: Fagaloa Bay, Uafato
This trip is to a remote area not visited by many tourists and requires a 4 wheel drive vehicle. Enjoy the beautiful scenery, huge bays, steep mountains, waterfalls, talking with traditional crafts people at Uafato. Relax, have a coconut drink and kava session in a in a little beach hut next to the sea. Walk around the village to see kava bowl carving and local handicraft. Walk to the bird house and waterfall. The trip includes transportation, the guide and a light lunch.

Day 10:Papaseea Sliding Rocks
An easy fifteen minute taxi ride takes you to Papaseea Sliding Rocks.  Climb down the steps towards a unique experience: natural rock slides aside a waterfall! Three slides, the main 8 meter slide with swimming pool below, a 4 meter "bathtub" slide and then an exciting 12 meter slide / drop, can be enjoyed. It’s safe and its fun. Day 11: Savaii Island
Arise early to take the ferry to Savaii . Savaii is a big rural island with fewer people and a vast uninhabited interior.
The around Savaii Island Tour departs daily from Salelologa Wharf immediately after the arrival of the first ferry from Upolu (about 8am). The tour takes a brief stop at the John Williams Memorial with an insight into early missionary activity in Samoa.  The next stop is at the lava fields at Saleaula on the north-east coast. The last activity was between 1905 and 1911 when the crater at Mt. Matavanu was formed. The north coast of Savaii is also dominated by lava fields, from a previous eruption in 1760. Most of the north coast is still relatively barren, with few villages and large tracts of young forest. Falealupo Rainforest Preserve tree canopy walkway offers spectacular views over the forest canopy as you walk across a swinging bridge between two huge trees. The next stop is Taga Blowholes where you can shoot coconuts 30 meters into the air. A little further along the coast is the 10 minute hike to Afu A'au Waterfall and a welcome swim in the deep water pool.

Day 12: Savaii Island
Enjoy a relaxing morning at the white sandy beach. Return to Salelologa, shop at the local market and return by ferry to Upolu
Visit a fiafia Show on Upolu (Wednesday thru Saturday only); go dancing at the nightclubs in the evening.

Day 13:  Relax, Swim and Snorkel at Palolo Deep
Enjoy a relaxing morning at
Palolo Deep Marine Reserve or sunbathe in our tropical palm fringed garden.  Watch the sunset from Princess Tui's steps enjoying Samoa's cool Vailima beer.

 Day 14: Apia town
Last shopping at the local markets. Relax, swim and snorkel at Palolo Deep Marine Reserve,
Return to Princess Tui at lunch time for fish and chips or seafood platter at Seafood Gourmet. You will be picked up from the airport shuttle bus at 1848 Princess Tui Inn to be on time for your airport departure.
